Time Strategies

In Why time management is ruining out lives, Oliver Burkeman argues making more time causes your schedule to fill up even more. I think there is a lot of benefit to moving more slowly through life and enjoying each activity. When your focus is on cramming in as many tasks as possible, your attention is not centered on the tasks at hand. However, in The Myth of "Too Busy," Time Grahl specifically offers time management strageties. The difference is Grahl views time management as another way to prioritize your life. In essence, he recommends using time management strageties to optimize your work time so you can actively create well-used leisure time. While this is a nobel goal, the question arises, what is the difference between work and leisure? Why is working at your desk not as enjoyable as sitting on your porch drinking tea? Both activities can be equally fulfilling if they are viewed that way. Ultimately, the focus should be on being present while completing tasks rather than being efficient. Usually efficiency is a natural by-product of mindful presence. It's like when you focus on not messing up a speach instead of saying the words. You mess up.
