Feedback Strategies

The first article I read was called Try Feedforward Instead of Feedback by Marshall Goldsmith. According to this article, focusing on constructive practices one can use in the future is more effective than dwelling on what went wrong in the past, which I agree with. Being told what to do next time is really all we have control over anyway, which mean there is an action that can be attached to that lesson. This is really what people are looking for anyway because it is the only thing they can change.
The second article I read was called Preschoolers and Praise: What Kinds of Messages Help Kids Grow?  by Deborah Kris. This article emphasizes that relating success to a specific effective strategy when giving praise make it more meaningful and instructive for the receiver. This caters to a growth-mindset by reinforcing the role of process and effort in achievement rather than inherent or accidental talent. This is really just about very specific with your praise and thinking more critically about why you are giving praise. There are certain aspects of behavior that cause you to give praise. Find out what they are and emphasize them in your feedback.
